TurboMTA vs PowerMTA: An Honest Comparison

TurboMTA vs PowerMTA compared on licence model, platforms, API, dashboard, setup help and maturity, written honestly and dated.

PowerMTA, from Bird, is the long-established commercial MTA for high-volume senders. TurboMTA is a newer, independent product that covers similar ground. This comparison is as of October 2026 and sticks to what is public or what we can state about our own product.

Licence model

PowerMTA is commercial software with quote-based licensing; check the vendor for current terms. TurboMTA is a one-time licence per PC or server ($249 for Linux or Windows, $299 for the bundle), with no per-message fee.

Platforms, API and dashboard

TurboMTA runs on Linux (systemd, DEB/RPM) and Windows, has a native REST API, and ships a real-time web dashboard. For PowerMTA's current platform, API and monitoring features, see its documentation.

Setup and support

Every TurboMTA licence includes free setup: you share SSH access to your VPS and we configure TurboMTA, a sending policy for your provider's limits and your DNS records.

Maturity

PowerMTA has years of production history at very large scale. TurboMTA is much younger. If you need the longest track record and a vendor support contract, PowerMTA is the safer choice. If you want a lower, predictable cost, a dashboard and API, and help getting set up, TurboMTA is worth a look.

What we have not measured

We do not publish speed or deliverability comparisons because we have no independent benchmark to cite. Deliverability depends on your lists, content and IP reputation, not on the MTA alone.
